Crown Towers Macau
Crown Towers at City of Dreams, Macau, was designed to set a new standard for international luxury hotels. Bates Smart was asked to create a six-star hotel in Asia’s leading gaming destination, and the result won Best International Design at the 2010 Australian Interior Design Awards. The need for robust, practical, and aesthetic designs led the Bates Smart team to choose Designer Doorware’s door furniture for this benchmark project.
design brief
Macau was quickly becoming a destination for travellers with lavish tastes. Crown Towers at City of Dreams was meant to be a world benchmark for contemporary luxury hotel, hospitality, and gaming interiors, and Bates Smart’s brief was to give the hotel a sense of grandeur on a world-class level.
door hardware solution
Bates Smart had a clear design concept, and Designer Doorware had door furniture that fit it. Quad and Novanta levers in polished chrome sit alongside Kali levers in satin chrome, carrying the oversized, jewellery box detail through the hotel.
In a hotel of this size, the door hardware also had to perform. Every piece met the client’s performance criteria for fire safety and security, so the architectural door hardware complies with fire-rated door requirements throughout the building without changing the look of the interiors. Our specialist project team worked closely with Bates Smart from specification through to supply to deliver hardware that met both the design and the compliance requirements.
- Door handles: Quad and Novanta levers in polished chrome; Kali levers in satin chrome
- Door accessories: square and round escutcheons, turn snibs, cylinders and door stops
- Performance: compliant with the project’s fire safety and security criteria
More than a decade on, Crown Towers is still a reference point for luxury hotel interiors in Asia, and the door hardware has kept pace with it.
