balencea
A residential apartment tower in one of Melbourne's most sought-after inner-city precincts, developed by Sunland Group and designed by Wood Marsh Architecture. Its interiors bring classical and contemporary influences together, setting polished surfaces against veneer, timber and stone, and classical chandeliers against contemporary minimalism. Designer Doorware designed and manufactured a customised suite of architectural hardware to carry that balance through every detail.
a customised hardware solution
The suite has a European influence and is built mainly on our signature Quad range. We customised its finest details and selected a small palette of finishes to keep the interiors consistent.
door handles
The tall glass entry doors needed handles that suited the foyer without dominating it. We developed a pair of extended-length stainless steel pull handles. Square but fine in profile, and round stems soften the square form so it connects with the building's curves. We chose a satin finish over polished so the handles stay understated and the foyer is what people notice on arrival.
cabinet handles
We specified Quad 5112 solid stainless steel cabinet handles for both: satin stainless on the white cabinetry, and a dark bronze powder coat on the timber.
bathware and accessories
Sunland wanted bathrooms that felt exclusive, so we made rectilinear towel rails in solid polished stainless steel, in three lengths with square fixing plates. The penthouse ensuites have glass walls and frameless glass doors, which left very little space to fix a towel rail. Our answer was a free-standing towel rail in polished stainless steel.
Designer Doorware both designs and manufactures its products, so every detail at Balencea, from the proportion of a pull handle to the hinge of a towel rail, could be resolved specifically for the building. The outcome is hardware that matches the architecture it serves.
